TATA Swach wins Wall Street Journal Asian Innovation Award 2010 (Oct 2010)
TATA Swach has been declared the winner of the Wall Street Journal Asian Innovation Award 2010. The Journal received more than 300 nominations this year, from
China,
India,
Hong Kong,
Australia,
Singapore and other nations in
Asia.
Teams from Innovation Labs of both TCS and TATA CHEMICALS have been involved in the creation of the filter. TCS Innovation Labs – TRDDC took up testing and design of size, geometry and flow configuration. In parallel, the Tata Chemicals Innovation Centre worked on developing a more optimized method for depositing nano-silver on
RHA for maximum process utilization.
mKRISHI- A Mobile Agro Advisory System from TCS Innovation Labs- Mumbai was also among the 12 finalists who represented a cross-section of some of the most exciting products and services being developed in
Asia.
The WSJ Asian Innovation Awards recognize innovations that break with conventional processes in creative ways. It also recognizes importance of having a strong business model behind an innovation which in turn would ensure that a new application makes it to the market where it can benefit a wider audience.

Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) honors Prof. Mathai Joseph with ACM Presidential Award 2010 (June 2010)
Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has honored Prof. Mathai Joseph, TCS Executive Vice President, with the prestigious ACM Presidential Award 2010. Professor Mathai received the ACM Presidential Award at the 2010 ACM Awards Banquet on June 26, 2010 at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in
San Francisco,
California.
Prof. Mathai received this prestigious award for his devoted commitment to establishing an ACM presence in
India. He was instrumental in the formation of the ACM India Council, launched in
Bangalore in January 2010. Prof. Joseph also serves ACM as a member-at-large on ACM Council, to which he was elected in 2008.
ACM recognizes excellence through its eminent series of awards for outstanding technical and professional achievements and contributions in computer science and information technology.

The honours were judged by an eminent jury comprising Narayana Murthy (Founder – Chairman, Infosys Technologies Ltd.), T. N. IEEE honours Prof Jeffrey Ullman with IEEE John von Neumann Medal-2010 (Feb2010)
Prof Jeffrey Ullman, Professor Emeritus of Computer Science, Stanford University, USA and Member, Research Advisory Board, TCS has been awarded IEEE John von Neumann Medal-2010.
He received this prestigious award “For laying the foundations for the fields of automata and language theory and many seminal contributions to theoretical computer science.”
The IEEE John von Neumann Medal was established by the Board of Directors in 1990 and may be presented annually 'for outstanding achievements in computer-related science and technology.' The achievements may be theoretical, technological, or entrepreneurial, and need not have been made immediately prior to the date of the award.

Russian
National
Academies.
Som has a long association with TCS Innovation Labs – TRDDC. Two of the scientists from TCS innovation Labs - TRDDC, obtained PhD under Som's guidance.
TCS wins Golden Peacock Award 2010 (Jan 2010)
TCS data masking tool Masketeer™has been awarded the ‘Golden Peacock Innovative Product/Service Award 2010’ by the awards jury, under the Chairmanship of Justice P. N. Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India and Member, UN Human Rights Commission.
Masketeer is the data privacy product of TCS designed to mask sensitive data. While taking care of privacy Masketeer retains realistic look and feel of data so that utility of data is not lost. By using Masketeer, organizations can share sensitive data across geographical boundaries without violating various privacy regulations (GLBA, HIPPA, UK Data Protection act and so on) governing the region.
