Research at TCS Innovation Labs - BangaloreSome of the specific areas of research & development at TCS Innovation Labs -Bangalore are: Cardio Monitor for Ubiquitous Heart Monitoring Heart related ailments are one of the major killer diseases world wide. Many a times it is beneficial to observe the heart functionality continuously for a day to detect any anomaly to assess and predict potential cardiac problems. “Cardio monitor” is a wearable device for ECG monitoring allowing the convenience of free mobility of the user. Current version of the device supports three lead acquisition and has a storage capacity for 24 hours. This is a collaborative development with IIT Mumbai. A data analytics and visualization technique is developed to aid the doctor to access and examine the ECG records from the Cardio Monitor. The sensor network research program contributes to the development of network protocols, devices and visualization techniques for large scale wireless sensor network applications. The research also contributes in building hardware platforms using IEEE 802.15.4 radios, developing antenna systems, routing protocols for battery operated sensor devices, and developing middleware for visualization and event monitoring. Ongoing work focuses to develop solutions for multiple applications involving environment, forest, infrastructures and home. Advanced Wireless Communications Algorithms and Technologies for Next Generation wireless communication systems MIMO-OFDMA The emerging and futuristic wireless systems/standards like IEEE 802.16e, IEEE 802.11n and 3GPP-LTE adopt MIMO-OFDMA transmission (and reception) for flexible system operation in terms of throughput and coverage. There is an emphasis on developing cutting edge base band signal processing algorithms, including those based on factor graphs for next generation receivers. Another major focus is to develop MAC scheduling algorithms taking into consideration channel dependant and QoS aware MAC scheduling. Cognitive Radios Cognitive Radios are potential disruptive technology being researched for future wireless communications. CR draws an evolutionary path from software defined Radios (SDR) and the approach here would be to bring intelligence to the Radios. The research focus in addition to other subsets of topics would also focus to develop the concept of a Cognitive Management Entity as an engine for optimizing and managing the cognitive radio network in a distributed manner. Compact Antennas This research work is focused on the development of innovative antenna configurations for different wireless communication scenarios. This includes conceptual development towards miniaturization of RF antennas and exploration of utilizing new devices and artificial materials. Compact passive RFID tag design is being explored to enable new application scenarios. Further schemes for utilising polarization diversity of antennas for robust communications are also being explored. The focus of this project is to develop efficient algorithms for audio content detection and recognition for embedded applications. Following are the topics of research being pursued.
