mKRISHI® - TCS Mobile Agro Advisory System

Despite the penetration of mobiles phones in rural areas, the potential for leveraging this for crucial information dispersal and providing valuable services remains largely unexplored. This has been due to language constraints, inability to localize and personalize services to address individual needs.

• How can we reach individual farmer and understand his/her needs?
• How can we help small and medium farmers get important information about water, pesticide and fertilizer use?
• How can we help them conserve soil and warn them about sudden changes  in micro climate?
• How can we help them get better produce and better prices in the market?  

To answer all these questions we developed the mKRISHI rural services platform. mKRISHI’s strength lies in the fact that it can offer personalised advisory services in voice or graphic modes on simple cell phones.  These services are based on real time data as well as farmer needs. Apart from the technological innovation it has brought about, it has enabled a whole community – consisting of farmers and several rural stakeholders – to connect and exchange information and services.

This platform can work for any rural community, not just agriculture and offers information and service providers a great opportunity to reach out to rural markets.
